From FAMU-FSU College of Engineering News:
Dean J. Murray Gibson announced Monday his appointment of Sastry V. Pamidi, Ph.D., MBA as the chair of the FAMU-FSU College of Engineering’s (COE) Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE). Pamidi begins his new role July 1, 2018.
Pamidi joined the COE in 2015. He has worked on superconducting materials and devices since 1986. He began research at the Florida State University Center for Advanced Power Systems (CAPS) at its inception in 2001, and he currently leads a multidisciplinary research group there focused on superconducting power devices and related applied cryogenics.
Before joining CAPS, Pamidi worked with the National High Magnetic Field Laboratory in Tallahassee, the Applied Superconductivity Center at University of Wisconsin in Madison, at the University of Aberdeen in Scotland and at the Bhabha Research Center in Mumbai, India.
Pamidi earned his MS in nuclear science at Andhra University (1984), MBA in financial management at FSU (2007) and Ph.D. in materials chemistry at the University of Bombay (1992). He has published more than 150 peer-reviewed papers and is currently investigating superconducting devices, measurements and cryogenic cooling of superconducting materials, among other research interests. Pamidi has been approved by FSU for promotion to full professor with tenure this semester.
He assumes of the role of chair as Dr. Simon Foo returns to full-time faculty in the department after eight years as the ECE Chair.
The COE Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) presently has 28 diverse faculty members with strong research capabilities, including two National Academy of Inventors (NAI) Fellows. Active areas of research in ECE include energy storage materials and devices, renewable energy, advanced power systems, distributed controls, energy conversion systems, robotics, embedded systems, solid state and electromagnetic simulations, photonics, computer security, smart grids, resilient power networks, digital signal and image processing, wireless communications and artificial intelligence.
ECE offers ABET-accredited B.S. programs in electrical engineering and computer engineering. Currently, the department has more than 450 undergraduate students and more than 100 graduate students enrolled in M.S. and Ph.D. programs in electrical engineering.
