Security Access
1.0 Subject
Building Security - Issuance and Control Security Access Cards and Identification Cards.
2.0 Purpose/Scope
To establish policies and procedures to control access to the Center for Advanced Power Systems (CAPS) via the issuance Security Access Cards and Identification Cards for permanent/affiliated personnel, temporary personnel, students, vendors, contractors, visitors, and guests.
3.0 Policy
Security Access Cards and Identification Cards are issued to provide access to the Center for Advanced Power Systems (CAPS). Access to restricted areas is based on the individual's security level.
The CAPS Facilities Security Officer issues Security Access Cards and Identification Cards to permanent/affiliated personnel, students and contractors. Visitor Identification Cards and display labels are required for all individuals and group members visiting the building. All participants of prearranged group tours will be required to display a label indicating their name and organization. Members of a tour group must be accompanied by a CAPS employee at all times.
Security Access Cards and Identification Cards are for the sole use of the individual to whom they are issued and are to be used only in the performance of the individual's official duties. The Identification Card must be visibly displayed at or above waist-height at all times while within the CAPS Facilities except in circumstances where display of the card represents a safety hazard, e.g., while operating machinery.
Security Access Cards and Identification Cards will not be used to allow non-CAPS individuals into the facility. Metal keys, Security Access Cards and Identification Cards will not be loaned to any other individual. Individuals not in possession of an Identification Card will be escorted to Security.
Misuse of metal keys, Security Access Cards and Identification Cards will result in disciplinary action.
