Bio
Dr. Muhammad Shafiq is currently working as Research Faculty I, at the Center for Advanced Power Systems (CAPS), Florida State University (FSU), USA.
About his education, he received his M.Sc. degree from UET Lahore, Pakistan, in 2007 and his Ph.D. degree in power systems from Aalto University, Finland, in 2014. Regarding his career, from 2001 to 2009, he was a Lecturer and an Assistant Professor at IUB, Pakistan, and from 2015 to 2017, he was a researcher with industrial organizations in Finland. From 2017 to 2020, he was an Assistant Professor (research) at the Department of Electrical Engineering and Energy Technology, University of Vaasa, Finland. In 2021 he joined Tallinn University of Technology, Estonia as a Senior Researcher and in 2022 he joined, Center for Advanced Power Systems (CAPS), Florida State University (USA). His research interests include power systems, high-voltage engineering, partial discharge monitoring and diagnostics for condition monitoring of power system components, and design of current sensors for high-frequency measurements.
A major focus of his current work includes insulating material and system characterization, aging and life testing/modelling of electrical insulation for different power components used in industry, especially in electrified aerospace, sea, and ground transportation, and components for grid applications, under different power supply i.e., AC, DC and power electronics (PWM) and environmental conditions (atmospheric pressure and thermal stresses).
